Australian Interior Design Awards 2022

The Australian Interior Design Awards recognise and celebrate interior design excellence via a credible, industry-based program, which is backed by the Design Institute of Australia, the professional body representing Australian designers. The awards conferred have both national and international significance.

The judging process is anonymous, transparent and confidential. It is based on peer review and conforms to international standards. Jurors are eminent designers working with a convenor appointed by the Design Institute of Australia.

Premier Award for Australian Interior Design

Originally a stable and cart store, Stable & Cart House is a sensitive adaptation in North Melbourne. The design challenge presented a paradox, to introduce the obligatory domestic programme while preserving the warehouse scale of the interior and engaging thoughtfully with the imperfections and idiosyncrasies of the 1920’s brick warehouse.

Award: Sustainability Advancement

17 Union Street by Neometro is located within Jewell Station Village and includes 39 apartments, retail and public realm development. With architecture by BKK Architects and interiors by Clare Cousins Architects, it’s a building that will wear in, not out and support wellbeing and connection in the community.

Award: Residential Decoration

A Tri-level Melbourne home, originally a 19th century hardball court set in a mews square that reminds of residential London, transformed by architect John Mockridge in 1970 into Australia’s first warehouse conversion. Transformed back to its bohemian spirit by honouring the original architecture, fit for a prince.
